Probably best to have an older person answer this: it’s pretty obvious by the question that this is going to be completely out of the realm of experience for most of the teenagers.

Prostate Self Exam

Prostate cancer has many similarities to breast cancer. In the first place, it is among the most common deadly cancers. Secondly, it is gender specific (although it is possible for males to develop breast cancer, it is exceedingly rare). Third, it is detectable using a self exam. Finally, the prostate, like the breast, is located in a location that is not frequently talked about.

It is recommended that men aged fifty and older receive a yearly prostate exam. However, since the long term prognosis is directly proportional to how early the cancer is detected, conducting a prostate self exam can give you added precious time if the cancer develops in between your regularly scheduled exams.

A prostate self exam is surprisingly easy to accomplish, though it may take a bit of will power to get over the natural tendency to avoid the part of the body where the prostate is located. The prostate is very easy to reach as it lies less than a finger length away from the rectal sphincter, but the really hard part is convincing yourself that probing into the rectum is a good idea. This takes a bit of mind work–aren’t a few moments of being uncomfortable worth it if those few moments make the difference between catching the cancer early or late?

To perform a prostate self exam, simply insert the index finger into the anus and feel for a fleshy mass. It should have the same consistency as the skin between your thumb and index finger when making a tight fist. A healthy prostate is firm but not hard.

Gently massage the prostate, carefully feeling for any hard lumps. If you detect a lump, do not panic–it’s probably not cancer and, if it is, at least you caught it early. Call your physician and ask for a comprehensive prostate exam.

Doing a prostate self exam may be uncomfortable and embarrassing, but they can mean the difference between terminal and treatable prostate cancer. A few minutes of discomfort can save your life.

Having an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer can be caused by a lot of different factors. Prostate causes that lead to prostate diseases are often genetic, a disorder that has been passed on from one generation to the other.

There is also the possibility that there are hormonal imbalances in the man’s body, which caused the prostate system to react negatively. Some experts also find mineral deficiency to be a major caused of prostate problems. In order to function in an optimal level, the prostate needs to have ample supply of zinc.

Men who also have problems when it comes to maintaining the right amount of weight, find themselves facing problems relating to their prostate’s health.

Prostrate Gland

A lot of men actually have no idea where the prostate is and the actual importance of this gland. The prostrate works in the system of the body that has to do with the reproduction system. In the male it is roughly about the size equivalent to a walnut and can be found in the body below the bladder.

The urethra in the male has two particular roles. One is to grip urine from the bladder during urination, and the following is to hold sperm during ejaculation. The prostate gland must have male hormones to work in the right way. Some testosterone is also produced by the adrenal glands. The prostate has developed by the ninth week of the embryo. It is formed of glandular and non-glandular enclosed in a capsule. The prostate goes through two main times of enlargement.

In adolescence the prostate doubles in size, and then again grows again when a person reaches the age of twenty-five. For men under fifty the commonest problem is prostatitis, older men are far more at danger for BPH. Older men are far more subject to developing prostate cancer even though it is less common that BPH.

If you are having any urination issues it could be a sign you may see your doctor about your prostrate gland.

Prostrate Health Information

Being healthy requires the ability to stay informed and take action when necessary. Prostate health information is available to those who are at risk, or who have family members or friends who are at risk.

The best way to detect early signs of prostate cancer is to set up yearly appointments with a doctor and have tests run to determine if cancer is present. Detecting prostate cancer early will give doctors a chance to offer treatment and medication that can help eliminate the cancer and help in fighting it again if it should return.

Men in their fifties are at risk of developing prostate cancer. While there are several theories as to how a person develops this type of cancer, there is no way to determine at this time the exact causes. Many doctors suspect that heredity plays a large role in the development of prostate cancer. Many times there are obvious symptoms of this cancer, such as an enlarged prostate gland, which can be painful. Other symptoms include painful urination, weight loss, pelvic pain, and back pain. These symptoms could be caused by other illnesses and only a doctor can determine if it is prostate cancer.

While genetics plays a large role in the development of prostate cancer, other factors such as diet, exercise, and overall health could cause cancer. Smoking and drinking are also suspect. It is best to talk to a doctor about a diet and exercise plan that will help a person stay healthy. Another condition called Prostatitis, which is not a cancer, but an infection can be found in men of any age.

This infection can be painful when urinating. Seeking a doctors care is recommended as the infection could spread to other parts of the body. Anytime a person feels pain in an area of their body for more than a few days, they should seek medical attention. I do hope the post on prostrate health information has been of help to you.

Prostate Medication

- If you are suffering from a prostrate condition you are probably aware of the medications that are available. In addition to the standard prostrate medication, there are alternative medications as well. Being that prostrate conditions are so common in older men, there are several medications that are quite common.

In order to determine which prostrate medication is best for you, you will need to see a doctor. They will be able to determine what type of condition you are suffering from, as well as how to best treat it with medication.

Generally speaking, there are two types of prostrate medications that are used in treating people who are suffering from a number of conditions. Generally speaking, medications are most often times used by people who are suffering from an enlarged prostrate gland. But other conditions may be treated with medication as well.

The two types of prostrate medications include alpha blockers and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. Both of them are used to treat certain types of conditions, and have different side effects that may occur.

Alpha blockers are used in order to relax the muscles of the prostrate, as well as the bladder. In turn, this makes it much easier for you to urinate comfortably. The problem with alpha blockers is that they have several side effects that go along with them. These side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and respiratory infections.

On the other side of things, and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors are used to shrink the prostrate. In turn, this relieves the amount of pressure that is being put on the urethra. When taking and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors men who are suffering from symptoms will realize that they are going away as the prostrate shrinks.

The downside of and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors is that they can take a very long time to have a positive effect; sometimes more than six months. In addition, side effects include a decrease in sex drive, as well as impotence. These are side effects that many men do not want to deal with.

With both of these prostrate medications there are many side effects that should be looked into. Some men are willing to deal with these side effects, whereas others want to avoid them at all costs. This can be discussed with your doctor in order to determine the best medication for you.

Overall, prostrate medication is on the rise all over the world. With more and more baby boomers coming of retirement age, the need for prostrate medication is on the rise. Even though there are some side effects of prostrate medication, patients should be glad that they exist. They most definitely have their place in the world of medicine.

Enlarged Prostrate Symptoms

- If you’re an adult male, you need to keep an eye on the health of your prostate, a small, walnut-sized gland located directly behind the wall of your rectum. For many men, the prostate becomes enlarged at some point in their lives, but they ignore tell-tale signs until the problem has reached a critical stage. Instead of waiting, listen to your body and watch for these symptoms of a enlarged prostate that has grown bigger than it should be.

Difficulty Urinating – One of the most common signs of an enlarged prostate is difficulty in urinating. Because the prostate contains a tube which carries urine to the urethra (the opening at the tip of the penis), enlargement can create a “squeezing” of this tube and thus a stoppage in the urine stream. This can create intense discomfort as well as a feeling of constant need to urinate (but inability to do so.) If you’re having this frustrating symptom, it’s time to make an appointment with your physician.

Blood in the Urine – Along with difficulty in urinating, an enlarged prostate sometimes causes blood to seep into the urine. As you’re going to the bathroom, pay attention to the color of your urine stream; if you see any red or pink, it’s time to pick up the phone and call your family doctor. This can also be a sign of prostate cancer, so it’s best to find out the source of the blood as soon as you can.

Difficulty Maintaining or Getting an Erection – This is something that many men refuse to talk about, but erectile dysfunction (ED) can be a symptom of an enlarged prostate. If you have been plagued by erections that either won’t stay firm (or if you haven’t been able to perform sexually at all even though you are aroused), you should have your prostate checked out. ED can be a sign of other bodily concerns, too; don’t assume that all you need to do is take your buddy’s Viagra pill to fix the problem. Instead, seek medical attention.

Remember that your body is always sending you signals as to the health of your various internal organs, including your prostate with the enlarged prostate symptoms. Listen to those signs and you’ll wake up to a healthier tomorrow.

Prostrate Gland

- While performing a self-exam on your prostate gland isn’t simple, it could wind up saving your life by catching prostate cancer early on. Below, we list some advice on checking your prostate.

First, you need to know about the prostate gland. This is a small, walnut-sized object located right behind your rectum wall. Tubes pass through the prostate gland and carry urine and seminal fluid. Thus, the prostate gland is essential for both waste delivery and procreation.

For you to check your prostate, you’ll need to insert a finger into your rectum; however, because the anus walls are so delicate, you must use some kind of lubrication to avoid rupturing them. Finally, it’s recommended that you use some kind of surgical glove because it will allow you to more easily feel the prostate.

If this is the first time you’ve tried to self-check your prostrate gland, you may not be able to tell what you’re feeling. Thus, it could be a good idea for you to wait until your next physician’s appointment at which time he or she can walk you through the process. (Alternatively, your doctor may tell you that it’s not necessary for you to perform this kind of self-exam.)

Another way you can “check” your prostate gland is to be conscious of your bladder and bowel functions. Are you having trouble urinating? Is it difficult to have a bowel movement? Have you noticed blood in your urine, even only on occasion? Have you had trouble getting or maintaining an erection? These can all be signs that something is wrong with your prostate (though that doesn’t necessarily mean you have prostate cancer; an enlarged prostate can cause those concerns, too.)

In the end, by being diligent and listening to your body, you can “check up” on your prostrate gland.

Closely watching the food that you eat will help keep your body away from diseases relating to the enlargement of your prostate or the presence of cancer. Food that is rich in beta-sitosterol, such as pygeum and palmetto can help eliminate the possibility of having an enlarged prostate.

Experts also recommend food that is rich in fish oil, in order to provide healthy doses of Omega-3. Omega-3 provides protection for the cells in your prostate gland.

Enlarged Prostate Gland.

It is a Condition Caused by Numerous Disorders. An enlarged prostate can be caused by a number of conditions, some harmless and some potentially deadly, such as prostate cancer. So just exactly is it? An enlarged prostate is an increase in size of the gland. The causes are many and various, and may include bacterial or viral infections, natural processes associated with aging, as well as cancer.

The most common causes of an enlarged prostate are usually benign. Prostatitis is a blanket term that covers a number of different disorders all of which result in an enlargement of the prostate gland. Acute bacterial prostatitis is an enlargement of the prostate caused by a bacterial infection.

The treatment for this condition is simply administering antibiotics. Chronic bacterial prostatitis is caused by a physiological defect that provides a safe harbor for bacterial growth. The treatments for this type of enlarged prostate are not as simple as for acute bacterial prostatitis since the defect must first be treated before antibiotics can prove useful. This often involves surgery to correct the original disorder.

The worst case scenario for prostate enlargement is prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the most common causes of death for males over the age of fifty. Prostate cancer not only causes tumors, but also results in a general enlargement of the prostate itself. If detected early, prostate cancer is very treatable. However, if the disease is not detected before the onset of symptoms, it can be very difficult to treat.

Regardless of the causes of prostate enlargement, the symptoms are typically the same. These may include difficulties urinating, including a feeling of being unable to completely empty the bladder. Another common symptom of an enlarged prostate gland is blood in the urine. While some blood in the urine is natural, an enlarged prostate can cause excessive amounts of blood in the urine that may be visible to the naked eye.

Prostrate Health

- Old age is the time for thinking back to his accomplishments, lifestyles, swings and roundabouts in life and lots of other items related to his life. Almost all of them will feel satisfied BTW they led their life. This is the time when you enjoy the great benefits of his difficult work. This is true even in the case of prostate too. Prostrate health can be influenced badly in the old age.

Prostrate Health

- Concern over the side effects and physical trauma (not to mention the efficacy) of traditional surgical methods to heal the body has created a whole industry devoted to holistic health alternatives that don’t involve prescription medications or invasive procedures. This means that for men concerned about their prostrate health, there are plenty of natural options available to keep this walnut-sized gland functioning properly.

Diet – One of the best approaches to a healthy prostate is to maintain a good diet plan. It can be as strict as you prefer – some eschew meat and feel it is unnecessary and fouls up the bowels, thus creating stress for the prostate gland. Others simply recommend a diet high in fiber, low in fat, and generally well-rounded. Whatever you’re most comfortable with is the diet you should follow.

Exercise – There’s nothing better than a brisk walk (or jog, if you’re able) to increase the blood flow and stimulate the health of your prostate. Most holistic healers recommend a lifestyle that includes plenty of exercise; unless you’re a “gym rat” now, you’re probably not getting enough of the good stuff. Ramp up your exercise routine by getting outside and doing yard work, lifting weights, skiing, hiking, or enjoying a host of other heart-pumping activities. Even traditional physicians herald this approach to keeping all your bodily organs, including the prostate, in tip-top shape.

Supplements – Naturopathic doctors often recommend taking supplements as a way to boost your prostate health. However, there’s no one “recipe” as far as vitamins and minerals go; therefore, you’ll need to find the one that works best for you. By visiting your local healthy foods grocer, you can find some supplement packages and test them out. (And most health food stores also have a library section so you can read up on the supplements before buying them.)

Remember that there are many different ways to help your prostrate health. And in the process, you’ll probably ramp up your physical and emotional bliss, too.

Prostate Cancer information

Though no one wants to hear that he has the medical advances in prostate cancer treatment and therapies make the diagnosis far less fatal than it once was. In fact, the American Cancer Society (ACS) suggests that only 1 in 34 men will die from prostate cancer, and the survival rates are improving year after year.

As the second most common cancer in American men (the first is skin cancer), there is much known now about prostate cancer, though it’s still a mystery as to why some males get it and others don’t. However, what we can be sure of is that education has been the key to catching prostate cancer in time. This helps both the patient and physician stop the spread of prostate cancer as well as eliminate some of the fears (such as that being diagnosed with prostate cancer is an immediate “death sentence”, a common misperception.)

The ACS rates prostate cancer survival stats in five-year increments. Thus, their latest prostate cancer findings suggest that more than 99% of the men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer will survive for at least five more years. And if the prostate cancer is diagnosed while it’s still within the prostate, that survival rate leaps to almost 100%. However, if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (especially those that are significantly far away from the prostate gland), the five-year survival rate hovers around 34%.

Of course, it’s critical not to rely on numbers. Though they come in handy for statistical purposes, every man’s prostrate cancer experience is unique. Thus, if you or someone you love has one or more of the common symptoms of prostate cancer (such as blood in the urine, erectile dysfunction, or loss of bladder/bowel control), it’s essential to make an appointment with your family doctor. That way, if you do have the disease, you can quickly halt its progress.

I do hope that this prostate cancer information has been of help to you
