But just wanted to know what anyone thought out there about this issue. If it does keep us from getting pg, is there something we can do to shrink it? I know we can go IVF but it is very expensive. Any ideas?

Prostate Self Exam

Prostate cancer has many similarities to breast cancer. In the first place, it is among the most common deadly cancers. Secondly, it is gender specific (although it is possible for males to develop breast cancer, it is exceedingly rare). Third, it is detectable using a self exam. Finally, the prostate, like the breast, is located in a location that is not frequently talked about.

It is recommended that men aged fifty and older receive a yearly prostate exam. However, since the long term prognosis is directly proportional to how early the cancer is detected, conducting a prostate self exam can give you added precious time if the cancer develops in between your regularly scheduled exams.

A prostate self exam is surprisingly easy to accomplish, though it may take a bit of will power to get over the natural tendency to avoid the part of the body where the prostate is located. The prostate is very easy to reach as it lies less than a finger length away from the rectal sphincter, but the really hard part is convincing yourself that probing into the rectum is a good idea. This takes a bit of mind work–aren’t a few moments of being uncomfortable worth it if those few moments make the difference between catching the cancer early or late?

To perform a prostate self exam, simply insert the index finger into the anus and feel for a fleshy mass. It should have the same consistency as the skin between your thumb and index finger when making a tight fist. A healthy prostate is firm but not hard.

Gently massage the prostate, carefully feeling for any hard lumps. If you detect a lump, do not panic–it’s probably not cancer and, if it is, at least you caught it early. Call your physician and ask for a comprehensive prostate exam.

Doing a prostate self exam may be uncomfortable and embarrassing, but they can mean the difference between terminal and treatable prostate cancer. A few minutes of discomfort can save your life.

Over the years, the population of men dying from prostate cancer and other related diseases have been catching the attention of people from the medical field. One of the most well regarded herbal medicines that help cure prostate diseases is Lycopene.

Lycopene can be found in tomatoes and contain specific pigments that protect the human body from the invasion of prostate cancer cells. Zinc is also contained in most herbal medicines, allowing the prevention of prostate BPH as well as prostatitis.

Prostrate Surgery

- Numerous men who have developed prostate problems are worried that they won’t be in a position to enjoy sex after the surgery. Although their doctor has assured them that that this will happen on rare occasions, it still creates the worry about what might happen in this important area.

Some men may encounter issues due the problems they fear after surgery rather than the surgery itself. If you are nervous , it is extremely advisable to talk to the doctor before the actual surgery happens. A lot of men do find that it is very useful to talk to a qualified adviser in the period after surgery. This will normally help and be reassured on issues they are worried about.

You will have to undergo an annual checkup to ensure that there are no further problems and that additional surgery is not required. These checkups are essential and can identify early diagnosis in the fight against prostate cancer.

Their sexual function might take some time to return to normal, in most cases the majority of men can enjoy sex as normal after prostrate surgery. This period before normal function of sex could be up to 12 months, but this is dependent on a variety of factors such the severity of symptoms before the surgery.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, you may be wondering about some of the newest treatments available. One that’s been getting some serious press is cryosurgery, one of the latest means of treating (and potentially eradicating) cancer.

Cryosurgery, as the name implies, involves freezing body parts. Cold metal “probes” are inserted into prostate gland via incisions in the scrotum and/or anus. Gases are then pumped through the probes, creating an instant freeze which destroys the prostate gland and, consequently, the prostate cancer within the gland.

Though not recommended for men with enlarged prostates, cryosurgery has had some good results in males whose prostate cancer has not spread beyond the prostate gland. This procedure is done under general or local anesthesia, and a hospital stay of approximately one day is usually required. To ensure that bladder function remains viable during and after the cryosurgery procedure, a catheter is inserted so that urine can be moved out of the body. (The catheter is removed a few weeks after the cryosurgery has occurred.)

Patients who have opted for cryosurgery treatment in response to their prostate cancers have reported soreness and bruising in the vicinity of their rectums and scrotum. Sometimes, blood may be present in the urine stream for a few days after the procedure. Finally, the penis and scrotum sometimes become swollen post-cryosurgery. However, it’s generally a less invasive method of treating prostate cancer than traditional surgery or radiation options.

Of course, there are absolutely side effects to cryosurgery, as with any medical procedure. For instance, nerve damage can sometimes result from the freezing implements used during the procedure. This damage can even lead to incontinence or impotence in some patients. And some men have reported a burning sensation in the vicinity of the cryosurgery after the operation has long since ended.

However, if you want an alternative to radiation, chemotherapy, or surgery, you may find that cryosurgery is the perfect option for you. Discuss it with your physician to best determine whether prostate cancer cryosurgery is a good fit.
