New Treatment For An Enlarged Prostate Gland Could Help With Incontinence

New Treatment For An Enlarged Prostate Gland

Current surgical and drug treatments for enlarged prostate gland  have the side effect of interfering with a man’s sex life. However a new procedure which places a small anchor in the gland might be the answer for incontinence. The condition that the anchor treatment was devised is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The prostate gland is the shape of a doughnut and it is found around the area of the aretha. As a man gets older, the gland gets enlarged and as a result one of the major symptoms is increased visits to the bathroom at night. In addition the patient will have the feeling that his bladder is yet empty. In medical studies it has been discovered that around 25% of men over the age of 80 will have had treatment for this condition.

As discussed, although current medical procedures can make an improvement in the symptoms there are possible side effects. This will include headaches as well as a decrease in the libido. It’s because of these potential side effects that over 25% of patients do not finish the drug treatment program.

The new procedure  is called Urolift and is carried out under local anesthetic. In this a plastic tube is inserted and pushed as to widen the narrow part. This in effect allows the normal flow of urine to flow.

The device is secured within the gland by means of a special needle which is then secured to a tiny anchor. The combination of the needle thread and anchor helps to take the gland away from the uretha and take the pressure off which in turn allow the normal flow to return.

Clinical research on the procedure has found it to be highly effective but without the previous side effects.
